A design I finished this morning. Sort of a Sci-Fi, French-African Police Woman from the future. I'm in the process of doing a series of character designs based on French and African history, sort of a new France, if you will.

These are some character concepts I've been working on lately. Trying to take more time and learn how to render in a more painterly style. Also really trying to get down faces. My heads and hands class is really gonna help me this semester.

This is another character concept for the same children's story as my last post. This is my idea of a wandering African ninja-type warrior woman. I kept it pretty rough this time and just played around.

Steed

A charachter I started a couple of days ago. My first piece all on photoshop, with no pencil drawing to begin with. I am actually truly happy with how it came out. Children's book illustration seems to be pretty fun so far.

The Apple

A study I did tonight from a photo I took in figure drawing last year. Experimenting with some new brushes and blenders.

Billy Goat's Gruff

A concept I pencilled, scanned and painted in about two hours.

This is a project that I started on friday. I had someone take lot of pictures of me in my khaki detective trench so I could draw and paint the folds. So there will be al lot of future posts of me in a trenchcoat. I did try to make it look like someone else, but it still kinda looks like me. Anyway I had fun with using texture from the imported textures to the texture brushes I used in the shadows. Damn trenchcoats are hard to paint!!

Ghost Girl 2.0 Final (maybe)

I spent a lot of time on this one, and I don't think it's gonna get any scarier. I have been in the abyss long enough, it's time to come up for air. I'm sure I will do some minor corrections from time to time, but for now, I am done!

Ghost Girl 2.0 Value Studies

Today I put some value on this piece, and flipped the composition. Hopefully this made it more interesiting. Trying to work in B&W and get the values right before adding color. This is only my third time trying this technique so here goes.

Ghost Girl 2.0

I did concept painting of a ghost this past summer that I was quite proud of. However I never really got the concept fleshed out as well as I wanted to. So this is my second go. I pencilled this up last night and will begin painting shortly. Hopefully I'll be done in a few days..... Hopefully.

The Fuzz

I have never done a cartoon piece before so this is my first one. Distorting the proportions felt very empowering. Not having to follow rules allows one to become more creative. I will be doing lots more of these soon!

Three quick studies that I pencilled and painted tonight. I only spent about twenty minutes per face. I am trying to improve my painting speed, and the ability to make fast color choices. I have a long way to go.

Quick Study

I wanted to try a start to finish with a limited amount of time. I pencilled, scanned and painted this in a little over one hour. I'm pretty happy with how it came out.

Quick study.Another Aztec character. I was gonna make her a vamp, but decided not to.

Aztec Vampire

A quick study I started late last night. I have been watching lots of Vampire flicks lately. Bram Stokers Dracula, Dusk 'till Dawn, and Blade 2. So I figured I had to do one of my own. I borrowed reference from all three films, as well as others to come up with this guy. I hopefully will have time to do his wife soon.

I decided to do some corrections on it this weekend. I like it better now.

Sea Spell

I was messing around with mermaid concepts and instead came up with an atlantean sorceress whose familiar is the octopus. It was very challenging to create an entire underwater scene. I'm thinking about doing the atlantean wizard next.

Born Ready

This is another old drawing that I painted yesterday on a whim. It was really fun painting the placenta!! (I know that sound gross, but it's the truth)
